Jane Tagak grew up in southern Ontario and attended Hamilton Teacher's College after finishing secondary school. After graduating from teacher's college she taught school for a year in southern Ontario and then moved to the Northwest Territories. Jane worked for several years as a classroom teacher followed by developmental work with various local organizations in several communities. She has lived in Iqaluit for the past 15 years and is currently teaching a grade five six class half days. Jane is now putting together material for a book she is writing about traditional Inuit plant use in the eastern arctic. In her spare time she studies Inuit culture and history.
