Inuit Culture: Resources for Educators

I am a long term northern resident and educator and have prepared this page as a resource for elementary school social studies teachers. The Arctic and the Inuit have experienced major changes in the past few years. Many texts and curriculum guides may not reflect the current northern cultural and political environment.

There is a wide range of resources and information available on the Internet about the Inuit people and their culture. I have reviewed many of them and have put together this collection that provides accurate and interesting information on various aspects of Inuit history, culture, current events and lifestyle. This information would be useful in supplementing standard curriculum materials. Most pages are intended for adult readers, however I have noted a few that are written for children. Incorporating information from these pages into a social studies curriculum will help students understand and appreciate the unique culture and history of the Inuit.
